Recensie:
Dit verhaal was ontzettend mooi. Het taalgebruik is zo prachtig en voert je als lezer helemaal mee in de verschillende verhaallijnen. Het verhaal is tragisch en ontroerend en laat je niet meer los.

Aan de ene kant hebben we de verhaallijn van Kati, die in onderdrukt Estland leeft tijdens de Sovjetbezetting. Aan de andere kant is er Lydia, dochter van een belangrijk man binnen de Sovjet Unie. Hun levens zijn heel anders maar toch ook weer niet en de auteur weet ze prachtig te verbinden.

Het thema van geweven sjaals is er belangrijk in het verhaal, het verbindt alles met elkaar maar laat ook een belangrijk deel zien van Estisch cultureel erfgoed.

Dit boek heeft me echt geraakt, mede ook door de prachtige vertelstem van Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood, de verteller op Storytel.

Ik kan dit boek aan iedereen aanraden die van mooie boeken houdt, maar zeker ook als je geïnteresseerd bent in de geschiedenis van Estland. Het is spannend, tragisch en prachtig geschreven en voorgelezen.
