Recensie:
Toen ik ontdekte dat de auteur van The Night Circus een nieuw boek had geschreven, kon ik niet wachten om het boek in mijn handen te houden en het te lezen, al duurde het wel even tot ik er daadwerkelijk in begon. The Night Circus vond ik zó goed en ik was enorm bang dat dit boek zou tegenvallen, omdat ik er zulke hoge verwachtingen van had. Guess what? Dit boek was zelfs nog beter!

Een boek over boeken, over verhalen, dat kan ik natuurlijk niet laten liggen. Wederom heeft Erin Morgenstern een masterpiece geschreven waarin alle verhaallijnen met elkaar verwoven worden zodat je als lezer meegaat in het web, maar geen idee hebt wat er eigenlijk gebeurt of waar je uit gaat komen. Dit boek is als een droom, waarin alles logisch lijkt zodra je erin zit, maar wanneer je wakker wordt of er heel even uitstapt en er vanaf een afstandje je naar kijkt, je geen idee hebt waar je in terecht gekomen bent.

Niet dat het verhaal niet logisch is, want het tegendeel is waar. Alles klopt en wordt uiteindelijk duidelijk, wanneer je het geheel kan overzien.

Dit klinkt allemaal nogal vaag en dromerig maar dat is precies hoe ik dit boek heb ervaren. Je kunt het niet wegleggen, maar je doet het toch omdat je er niet te snel doorheen wil gaan. Je wil niet dat het afgelopen is. Het is geen boek, het is een avontuur dat je woord voor woord in haar greep houdt. Het is een boek dat je moet lezen.
