Samenvatting:
The title of this British series is derived from the education of the main character (Otis Milburn played by Asa Butterfield) and his classmates in high school. His mother (Jean Milburn played by Gillian Anderson) is a sex therapist. Through a series of events, Otis becomes a sex therapist in school – for his fellow high students.

This accidentally happens and is recognized by Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey). Maeve sees the financial potential so she forms an agreement where she will find the sexually needy customers for Asa and handle all the business aspects (collecting the money). Asa only has to counsel his classmates in the same manner as his mother does for adults. His mother is very blunt with Asa so dealing with uncomfortable situations comes naturally for Asa as he grows into becoming a therapist.

Recensie
Net als het geval was bij de serie You, was ook Sex Education ineens overal. Iedereen had het erover en ik hoorde zelfs radio dj’s erover praten. Tijd om eens te kijken waar iedereen het over had.

Het eerste wat mij opviel aan de serie, en ja, dit is nogal duidelijk aan de titel, maar er zitten echt heel veel seksscènes in de film. Daar werd ik een beetje ongemakkelijk van, omdat het dus om middelbare scholieren gaat. De acteurs zijn overduidelijk wel meerderjarig, maar blijkbaar zijn scholieren hier wel al mee bezig, vandaar ook de noodzaak van deze serie, maar dat blijft wel een beetje awkward.

Ik vond het verder wel echt een leuke serie. Hij is grappig en laagdrempelig waardoor je gemakkelijk 15 afleveringen achter elkaar kijkt. Daarbij komt dat het wel een serieus onderwerp heeft en dat jongeren hopelijk op deze manier ontdekken dat seksualiteit iets heel normaals is waar ze gewoon over kunnen praten.

De personages zijn tof en geloofwaardig. Ik vond vooral Maeve heel cool, super badass met toch wel een klein hartje. Het zijn personages in wie je je gemakkelijk kunt inleven.

Een toffe comedy die je zeker ook goed kunt bingewatchen op een luie zondagmiddag!
